利用地面灌水沟、畦或格田进行灌溉的方法。地面灌溉是古老的和最常见的灌溉方法，灌溉水引入农田后，在重力和毛细管作用下渗入土壤,田间工程设施简单,不需能源,易于实施,至今仍为世界各国广泛采用。缺点是容易造成表层土壤板结，水的利用率较低，灌水均匀度较差，用工较多。为了提高灌水质量，除了要求有完整的田间输水渠道网外，还需确定合理的畦、沟和格田规格，改进灌水工具和精细平整土地。灌水时还要确定适宜的入畦流量、入沟流量和封口成数（封口时水流达到整个畦沟长度的成数）。
